Leadership & Career Coach.

A life is made up of a great number of small incidents and a small number of great ones.
— Roald Dahl, Going Solo

I am an organisational psychologist and career coach with more than 20 years’ experience in developing talent.

It is now more than ever our own responsibility to manage and nurture our careers. But this can be difficult, careers seldom develop in a linear or logical way and increased flexibility has brought more complexity.

Sometimes you need an objective, supportive voice — especially when your career is at a cross-road or when it feels like your career is in a dead end street.

As a coach I accept that my client is resourceful. My coaching approach is to partner with my client in a way that creates trust, enabling both of us to show up fully. The aim is to move quickly to understand the context and a change agenda.

I use a variety of behavioural techniques to break big themes down into smaller shifts that are achievable, build confidence and can be sustained. I combine my training and my own experience of being coached, with what I have learnt from personal changes and moving continents, which have been both humbling and rewarding.

Some of the areas I can typically help with:

LEADERSHIP & Executive coaching

Stepping up for success, effectively leading the self and others. My approach to leadership development is based on the old adage that to lead others, you first need to lead yourself. People are not born leaders. They are born as babies. Shakespeare wrote as much in As you like it. I believe that leadership can make the single biggest impact on the success of any organisation. And that effective leadership brings energy to an organisation, creating the conditions for others to do their best work.

Performance & work BEHAVIOURs

Addressing strengths and development areas, effectively dealing with challenges, relationships and stressors. Working with a coach is an effective way to create plans to further develop your strengths and address issues that may be holding you back. The key is to keep it practical, making sure the changes can be implemented and sustained.

career Transition & career returner

Taking charge at different career junctions, navigating adjustment. Careers unfold differently today. Whether you are considering a career change or returning to work after a break, there are transferrable skills to your next career. Taking the plunge can be daunting, but it helps to have a partner. I support individuals through a personalised process to develop clear action plans to navigate the transition.

assessment

Self-insight for behavioural change. Getting to know yourself is a life-long process and self-insight is the first step to behaviour change, especially the kind of change that ‘sticks’. I help clients to gain enhanced self-awareness on unique aspects of their profiles that underpin behaviour. Gaining insight on aspects such as personality style, values, motives and problem solving styles can fast track personal development or focus a coaching agenda.

Helping people adjust to remote working.

13 April 2020

Practical advice on remote working amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.

“You are not working remotely. You are working through a crisis from home.” - A manager writing to a work team, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

These words struck a chord with me. Before the global pandemic, remote working was a way of working for some of us. As the crisis unfolded, it very rapidly became a reality for millions around the world, who were able and fortunate enough to work.
